The Cakes!

So here's a quick run through of some of my favorite cakes that I actually have pictures of. Sorry, it seams by the time I finish a cake I've only got my mind on finishing it and delivering it, so I always forget to bring the camera along. But here's some good examples of different techniques and the usage of different materials.
So this Cake is actually my own, as in the cake I made for my own wedding. What I like to show here is an example of fondant or gum paste flowers. The flowers there are Calla Lilys, my favorite.
This cake was a fun twist on the traditional buttercream and showcases my favorite cake stand. The bride wanted a affordable cake so she opted out of fondant, but wanted something a little more special than plain white buttercream so we went for chocolate. Can I tell you how delectable this cake was? DELICIOUS! She chose german chocolate, so we had milk chocolate layers with carmel, coconut, walnut filling ...yum.
She also only wanted two layers for budgetary reasons so we covered the next larger cake pan with satin to give it the illusion of more substance and height. I didn't love the pearls, and the white satin but hey on some things I have to do what I'm told. Although I wish I got a picture of this cake with the gorgeous exotic fresh flowers they put on it! It was sooo pretty!

This cake was so much fun! Such a refreshing break from the typical spring, summer wedding floral fest. I made tiny little snowflakes that I airbrushed with edible glitter spray, and made it look like they were heavier on top and then gradually becoming less frequent as they descended down the layers. This is a good example of incorporating the couples Monogram on a cake. That has been really popular lately. The black was also alot of fun. The black fondant is actually chocolate flavored. I loved doing the snowflake designs on the bottom layer. This cake was a behemouth, but fun.

On this cake the bride wanted the starburst colors so I used neon food coloring and fondant flowers. She also only wanted two layers of cake so we used rice krispies in the bottom layer. Rice krispies are a great alternative to foam and actually about the same cost. One fun thing on this cake is the wire scrolls with crystal beads.

On this cake the bride wanted a unique base so I covered a wooden base with colored satin. The options are endless on colors or patterns of the base covered with fabric.

A beautiful example of how fresh flowers add elegance to a cake. A unique feature of this cake is the piping over the ribbon.
